BJP can’t tolerate attack on dignity of women: Rajnath Singh | India News

Explaining the rationale behind the central government’s decision to ban triple talaq, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Monday that regardless of whether BJP forms the government or not, “our party cannot tolerate attack on the dignity and honour of women irrespective of her faith”.

At an election rally in Kathua district’s Billawar town in support of Union Minister and BJP’s Udhampur candidate Dr Jitendra Singh, he said, “Our opponents ask as to why we interfere in other religions. I want to tell them in unambiguous terms that any mother, sister and daughter, whatsoever is her religion, is our mother, sister and daughter as well. Whether we form a government or not… our party cannot tolerate an attack on the dignity and honour of women irrespective of her faith.’’

“How can we accept that three days or 10 days after marrying a woman, you abandon her just by saying talaq thrice,’’ Singh said, adding, “that is why I say we do politics not only for government formation, but nation building’’.

Referring to the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, he said he feels that “Ram Rajya” has started taking roots in the country and nobody can stop it from becoming a reality.

“We abrogated Article 370 so as to bring it at par with other states, constructed Ram temple and implemented CAA,’’ he said, adding that the only thing left now is the Uniform Civil Code. The party manifesto released Sunday promised implementation of the UCC in the next five years, he said.

Festive offer

Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, he said that India is heading towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2026-end and the country’s stature has been enhanced so much that the world takes note. “Earlier India was considered as a soft state… But when Uri and Pulwama happened, India gave a strong message that we will not touch anyone but if touched by someone we will not leave them. We have the capability and power to hit (our targets) anywhere within and across our borders. The power of India increased in the world (after the surgical strikes),” he said, giving credit to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Had Congress even fulfilled its promises partially made over the years, India would have been among the powerful nations of the world 20-25 years ago, he said.

Taking a dig at the NC and PDP leaders who had reportedly said “there will be blood bath if Article 370 was abrogated”, he said “streams of water and milk are flowing in J&K, which has shown significant development. PM Modi has returned things with interest to J&K which is moving rapidly on the path of development and progress”. With PTI inputs
