After BJP’s opposition to Hingoli MP Hemant Patil, the party’s Nanded candidate Pratap Patil-Chikhalikar is now facing the ire of Shiv Sena workers, who are opposing his name. Hemant Patil’s wife Rajashri Patil is likely to be offered a seat in Yavatmal-Washim and, sensing this, sitting MP Bhawana Gavli has rushed to Nagpur to meet Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. With just two days left for the last date of filing nomination for the second phase, the ruling alliance is engaged in massive fire-fighting to set its house in order.

The BJP has opposed the candidature of Shiv Sena’s Hemant Patil in Hingoli constituency in Marathwada region. BJP leaders from Hingoli have urged the party leadership not to give the seat to Shiv Sena. Instead, it suggested a BJP candidate should be fielded in Hingoli. Last week, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had released the first list of eight candidates, which included Hemant Patil from Hingoli.

Educational qualification

Pune’s Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar was trolled for his educational qualification allegedly by opposition’s IT wing. Dhangekar, who is known to be a grassroot worker, took the trolling in a positive manner and turned it into his campaign focus calling himself from a humble background. Dhangekar announced that since the opposition is talking about his education, it means they have nothing else against him and he was on the path of victory.

Nagpur has most number of candidates

Of the five LS seats which will go to polls in Maharashtra in the first phase, Nagpur has the highest number of candidates at 26. Gadchiroli-Chimur (ST) has the lowest with 10 candidates. Total candidates contesting in the first phase of elections include a total of 85 candidates. Ramtek (SC) has 16, Bhandara-Gondia has 18 and Chandrapur has 15 candidates. Despite 85 candidates, the real fight will be between Congress and BJP on four seats and between Congress and Shiv Sena on one seat.

Cong MLA to skip meet over Sangli

Congress MLA Vishwajeet Kadam from Sangli district has conveyed to state unit chief of the party that he will not attend the meeting of state campaign committee as the party has failed to find a solution on Sangli LS seat issue where Shiv Sena (UBT) has announced its candidate. Congress has been demanding this seat but Thackeray’s Sena has announced the Candidate for Sangli which has angered the Sangli unit of the Congress.
